Synopsis

Tawassul tells the journey of a young scientist named Syan into the valley of Tuwau to find her anthropologist grandpa. Her grandpa was ‘forced’ to divorce his wife and ‘driven’ away by the family members because they accused him of renouncing Islam. His anthropological writings of a strange people led by a man akin to the most important person in Islam - was the cause of the controversy.

Syan met a pilot who later became her guide into the remote regions of Tuwau. While stopping over at an outpost called Tanun, Syan discovered that the people of Tuwau were fierce warriors. The journey from Tanun to Tuwau on foot was like a ‘return’ to history all too familiar with Syan. But she could not ‘accept’ the fact at first because of its ‘impossibility’.

When she reached Tuwau, she met with a group of people wearing ‘apple-pie’ hats and holding Kalasnikov riffles made from Russia. She also saw tanks and missile launchers ready for battle.

Syan discovered that her grandpa had passed away a few days after the death of the ‘leader’ of Tuwau named Hira. Apparently Hira was ‘created’ from the genes found from the hair relic of the holy prophet Muhammad which was stolen by a geneticist from an exhibition on Islamic Civilization in Turkey. The geneticist had planted the DNA into the egg extracted from and then implanted into the womb of a woman from Tuwau. The man who was born bore resemblance of the holy prophet and experienced the re-run of history. He who had the fore-knowledge of things could also change the course of events.

Syan was prompted to leave Tuwau immediately because the valley was expecting an all-out attack by their enemies. Before she left Tuwau, she saw a group of youths wearing black head masks and strapped with explosives on their bodies chanting allegiance to the large poster of Hira hung onto a wall.

Syan took the writings of her grandpa entitled ‘Tawassul’ which she found in a building in Tuwau which looked like the Kaabah in Mecca. She also brought back the glass receptacle containing what seemed to be someone’s hair and some newspaper cuttings of the robbery at an exhibition on Islamic Civilization. On her journey home she also saw hundreds of war planes and helicopters armed with missiles and cannons approaching the valley of Tuwau.
